Ashby Baggers Selected to Represent Team GB at World Cornhole Championships

Representing one’s country is the highest honour in any sport, and Cornhole is no exception. While the sport’s major tournaments are traditionally held in the United States, the World Cornhole Organisation has, for the past two years, brought its prestigious World Championships to Europe. Following successful events in France and Germany, this year’s competition will take place in Croatia, welcoming athletes from over twenty nations — including a strong contingent from Great Britain.

Ashby Baggers are immensely proud to announce that four of our club members have earned selection to the national squad, comprising two-thirds of Team GB’s lineup. This remarkable achievement reflects not only individual talent but also the strength and camaraderie of our club.

Leading the charge is club founder Alistair Pettitt, renowned for his fearless and strategic play. He will be joined by his brother Nick Pettitt, who found exceptional form at the close of last season and has carried that momentum into the current campaign. Also representing Ashby is Tony Gavan, who will be stepping away from his vehicle MOT and repair business to compete on the international stage. Rounding out the quartet is teacher Mark Pallett, whose absence from the classroom comes with the full support and well wishes of his colleagues and students.

Joining the Ashby four are two additional members of Team GB: London-based fitness coach Liam McGrath, returning as team captain for a second consecutive year, and Geoff Vaughan, a tennis coach from Halford, Warwickshire.

On behalf of everyone at Ashby Baggers, we extend our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the entire squad. We are proud beyond measure to see our players representing both club and country on the global stage.
